What is Natuurmonumenten?

Natuurmonumenten works to keep the Netherlands livable with enough space for nature in all her appearances. She also focuses on the protection of nature, landscapes and the related cultural history by purchasing land for nature conservation and professional management of those areas.


What does Natuurmonumenten do?

  • Protecting our natural environment by acquisition of land for nature development or conservation in order to implement the National Ecological Network;
  • Management of over 300 nature areas in the Netherlands (total of 82,000 ha);
  • Providing public information, educational programmes and public guiding to enlarge the knowledge of the members of the association;
  • Political lobbyin;
  • Publications: quarterly magazine for members ‘Natuurbehoud’ (Nature Conservation), monthly news bulletin ‘Van Nature’ (By Nature) and a handbook with 2,500 nature and walking areas in the Netherlands;
  • Activities for members such as excursions and lectures.
