What is NCIV?

NCIV- The Netherlands Centre for Indigenous People-, has since 1969 worked on the recognition and protection of the rights of Indigenous People, which have been formalised in 2007 in the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.

What does NCIV do?
NCIV works on her mission by
* Lobbying and awareness building in the Netherlands on the situation of Indigenous People
* Connecting with themes living in Dutch society, which also have a big impact on Indigenous People, such as climate change, the millennium development goals, corporate social responsibility and biofuels
* collecting, developing and spreading of knowledge and information on indigenous people
* participating in strategic alliances to increase effectiveness and reach a broader audience.

Why is NCIV a member of IUCN?
NCIV is a member of IUCN because there is an undeniable relation between indigenous people and nature: Indigenous People are not only dependent on land to supply their means of existence. Their entire spiritual, cultural and social identity is interwoven with land and nature.
