Van Tienhoven Foundation
What is the Van Tienhoven Foundation?
The van Tienhoven Foundation works to promote the protection and conservation of ecosystems and their flora and fauna, where ever they are threatened outside the Netherlands. The Netherlands Foundation for International Nature Protection (Van Tienhoven Foundation) was founded in 1930 to be the legal body of the Netherlands Commission for International Nature Protection. The first chairman, Mr. P.G. van Tienhoven, founded both organisations. The legal body became a fact after the donation of a generous sum by this chairman to be used for international nature protection. He was a distinguished nature conservationist and can be considered one of the founders of IUCN. The Van Tienhoven Foundation is, consequently, one of the founding members of IUCN, and also of the Dutch chapter of WWF. Until 1977, the board of the Van Tienhoven Foundation was represented in the board of the Dutch chapter of WWF.
