Wadden Sea Society
The Wadden Sea is one of world’s largest wetlands. A unique nature reserve of important international value. That is the reason the Wadden Sea is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Nowhere in the Netherlands, you can experience so much space, silence and darkness. The Wadden Sea Society has worked to protect this area since 1965.
What is the Wadden Sea Society?
The Wadden Sea Society is the national organisation for the Wadden Sea. They aim for conservation, restoration and good management of this area for the present and future generations. (Unfortunately) their work is still urgently needed. Nature in the Wadden Sea could be much richer than it currently is. The characteristic features of the area are threatened.
What does the Wadden Sea Society do?
- Prevention of activities that threaten the Waddensea (e.g. fishing of shellfish, exploitation of gas) by communication, actions and promotion of more sustainable developments;
- Conservation and restoration of quality of landscape;
- Establishing national and international environmental laws and regulations for the protection of the Wadden Sea;
- Stimulation of economic sustainable activities in the Wadden Sea, like ecological agriculture, eco-tourism and cultural tourism;
- Education and information.
