Communications Coordinator focused on Positioning and Fundraising (32-36 hours)

As Communications Coordinator, focused on Positioning & Fundraising, you will be working with the communications team on conveying IUCN NL’s vision, strategy and impact to policymakers, member organisations and program partners. In a time where the playing field is changing, aligning with the Fundraising department is more important than ever. Together, you will target new audiences and open new doors to fund our conservation projects.

Your role

The communications professional that we are looking for has:

  1. the experience to coordinate the annual corporate communications cycle, like the annual plan;
  2. the strategic capacity to develop and implement plans for positioning and fundraising;
  3. and the work ethic to develop and write content as a member of the Communications Team.

What will you be doing?

  • Drawing up and implementing communication strategies, both corporate and project-focused (including the annual plan for the communications team and communications strategies for projects);
  • Further developing the content of the corporate website (in line with the new 2026–2030 strategy);
  • Proactively advising the management team on external communication and stakeholder relations;
  • Handling press requests, maintaining media relations, and—if necessary—acting as spokesperson;
  • Identifying communication opportunities and responding to them adequately;

Team lead for the communications team:

  • Lead the communications team, consisting of 4 members;
  • Being a ‘gatekeeper’ for incoming work, delegating it within the team, based on their availability. Manage expectations towards project management;
  • Quality assurance of the outgoing content.

Fundraising and positioning:

  • Developing and implementing strategies for positioning and fundraising, in cooperation with the Fundraising Manager;
  • Thinking out-of-the-box in finding ways to target new audiences.

Possibly:

Managing communications within projects and coordinating communications officers from other organisations.

Who are we looking for?

You have a warm and enthusiastic heart for the vision and mission of IUCN NL. In addition, a keen sensitivity to developments in the sector is key, as well as the ability to translate complex issues, such as biodiversity loss and human rights into accessible and appealing content.

In addition to a drive for IUCN NL’s mission, you have:

  • A completed degree or academic level of working and thinking in communication;
  • At least 8 years of experience as a communications professional (within an NGO preferably, or mission-driven organisation);
  • Experience with positioning, fundraising, and stakeholder communication;
  • Experience with press relations and being a spokesperson;
  • Good knowledge of content marketing and communication developments;
  • Experience with managing/coordinating communication processes, including planning and budgeting;
  • A relevant network within the sector is a plus.

Language requirements

Good command of Dutch (near native) and English.

What do we offer?

  • A one-year contract with a competitive salary, with the possibility of extension;
  • An attractive benefits package, including age-related additional holiday leave, pension accrual with the Agricultural Industry Pension Fund (BPL), a comprehensive package of employee insurances, and a good travel expense reimbursement. Also, a budget is available for training and personal development;
  • Flexibility in determining one’s own working hours and the option to work (partially) remote;
  • An inspiring workplace in a green office, with the Hortus Botanicus as your backyard!
