Romie Goedicke, senior expert green economy at IUCN NL says: ‘This report demonstrates that private sector support can be a game changer in nature conservation. We hope the examples in this report will inspire other parties to invest in similar initiatives.’
Building conservation and nature-based solutions into projects represents a massive opportunity. WWF and other nature conservancy organizations need to work with companies, financial institutions and local stakeholders to develop Bankable Nature Solutions (BNS). This way, they can deliver impacts that reduce pressure on ecosystems, drive resilience and sustainability for both people and nature, while generating positive financial returns for communities and investors.
An example of such an initiative is the Mobilising More for Climate (MoMo4C) programme initiated by WWF, Tropenbos and IUCN NL and supported by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This five-year program (2019-2024) aims to bring together entrepreneurs, companies, policymakers, (local) investors and civil society organisations to make green business propositions that tackle the impacts and causes of climate change at a landscape level in developing countries, and to attract investments to implement these initiatives.
