As the secretary of the Dutch Roundtable on Tropical Forests, Gijs bring together policymakers and practitioners. He has a keen interest in landscape ecology, rewilding solutions and international policy, and has experience with international collaboration, ecological fieldwork and modelling.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"block block-container small-12 large-offset-1 large-10\">\n<p>Gijs is a graduate from Wageningen University, where he studied Biology. During his studies, Gijs saw how global challenges call for local solutions. For an internship in Panama, Gijs studied the role Teak plantations can have in sustaining forest mammal communities. For his master thesis, he observed the benefits smaller field sizes in strip intercropping can have for field-breeding farmland birds.
