As part of the PIDDA Rights project<\/a> jointly implemented by IUCN NL and Sociedad Peruana de Derecho Ambiental (SPDA), SPDA has successfully completed the second edition of a course for people committed to protecting the environment and human rights in the Peruvian Amazon. Following the promising first edition in Madre de Dios<\/a>, this edition was held in Loreto, another region of the Peruvian Amazon where environmental defenders face similar challenges. <\/h4>\n<\/div>\n\n

Peru is among the ninth most dangerous countries in the world for those who defend the environment and human rights; 62 environmental defenders have been killed<\/a> in Peru in the past twelve years. At the same time, the country\u2019s civic space is shrinking, and repressive measures are increasing in number[1]<\/sup><\/a>https:\/\/www.icnl.org\/resources\/civic-freedom-monitor\/peru<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span>
