Last week, IUCN and the University of Geneva launched a report on the status of environmental civic spaces. The report paints a bleak picture: nature conservation NGOs are faced with shrinking civic spaces, deteriorating conditions and attacks.<\/h4>\n<\/div>\n\n

The report, Conservation NGOs at risk: The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and shrinking environmental civic spaces<\/em><\/a> is based on a worldwide survey and consultations with NGO members of IUCN.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n

Peter Bille Larsen, lecturer and researcher at the University of Geneva<\/a> and member of IUCN CEESP<\/a>, who published the report, says: \u2018According to over a third of the NGO respondents, conservation has become less safe. We cannot halt biodiversity loss without securing enabling spaces for conservation organisations.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
