Gijs Rotteveel | Junior Project Officer
Gijs is Junior Project Officer at IUCN NL, working mainly on regranting, processing funding applications for emergencies and land acquisition. As the secretary of the Dutch Roundtable on Tropical Forests, Gijs bring together policymakers and practitioners. He has a keen interest in landscape ecology, rewilding solutions and international policy, and has experience with international collaboration, ecological fieldwork and modelling.
Gijs is a graduate from Wageningen University, where he studied Biology. During his studies, Gijs saw how global challenges call for local solutions. For an internship in Panama, Gijs studied the role Teak plantations can have in sustaining forest mammal communities. For his master thesis, he observed the benefits smaller field sizes in strip intercropping can have for field-breeding farmland birds. As chair of the local student union, Gijs also worked on bridging the gap between policy and practice, finding solutions for the gaps in student welfare, and bringing together student sustainability organisations.
Through his work at IUCN NL, Gijs strives to contribute to cross-border collaboration, helping to set a standard for trust-based conservation and coexistence worldwide.
Gijs is fluent in Dutch, English and Spanish.
