Liliana Jáuregui | Director
Liliana Jáuregui Bordones is a Chilean–Dutch economist, born in the north of Chile between the sea and the desert, where she learned early on the challenges of building prosperity for society while protecting fragile ecosystems such as highland wetlands and her native Pacific Ocean.
She studied in Wageningen, the Netherlands, before joining IUCN NL in 2006 as Senior Environmental Justice Expert. In January 2025, she became Director of the organisation.
Liliana has over 20 years of experience leading international programs with civil society organisations, working at the intersection of nature conservation, human rights, and environmental justice, with a particular focus on Indigenous peoples and local communities. She has designed and implemented global programs supporting Environmental Human Rights Defenders and coordinates initiatives to combat environmental crime, especially in Latin America.
She has been part of the management team of IUCN NL since 2019 and has also collaborated with documentary film teams on Arica (Chile/Sweden, 2020) and Tigre Gente (USA/Bolivia, 2021), and is currently involved in the production of Tigre Eléctrico (Colombia/USA).
