Mariel Cabero | Expert Environmental Justice

Mariel Cabero Ugalde was born and raised in Bolivia, where she experienced wild nature since a young age. Family trips through tropical forests, and joining her father in his fieldwork with Indigenous communities inspired her passion for environmental justice and conservation. She studied Environmental Engineering in Argentina and earned an MSc in Water Management in the Netherlands.

At IUCN NL, she works on environmental justice programmes in Latin America, focusing on forest governance, indigenous territorial rights, and tackling environmental crimes. She works in coordination with local partners to strengthen land rights, support environmental defenders, and promote sustainable livelihoods.
