Barbara Hendus | Expert Extractives & Conservation

As Expert for Extractives & Conservation, Barbara works on projects with a wide range of topics at IUCN NL. From the global coordination of the mercury governance project to supporting reforestation in Ghana, Barbara is interested in all projects that support nature, wildlife and people.

Prior to joining IUCN NL in 2019, Barbara worked in the field in different positions. She collected behavioural data of large mammals for the Wildlife Conservation Society in the Republic of Congo and led the internship program of the Alliance for a sustainable Amazon in Peru. Barbara holds an international Erasmus Mundus Master’s degree in Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems from the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Université libre de Bruxelles and Università degli Studi di Firenze.

Barbara is driven by her fascination and love for animals which also translates into her private life. She is always surrounded by animals and everything concerning animals sparks her interest.
