With great sadness we learned that our former director dr. Wim Bergmans passed away at the age of 78 years.  Wim has been of great importance for the IUCN National Commission of the Netherlands and international nature conservation. As secretary of the Committee and board member, he helped determine the course and impact of the organization. He also stood at the cradle of influential international nature conservation programs and he functioned at IUCN and beyond as 'scientific conscience'. Wim worked for the Dutch Committee from 1983 to 2005, but his involvement with the firm and employees remained to the end.

We remember him as a highly committed expert as much as a very beloved colleague and manager. We wish family and friends a lot of strength with this loss.

We will dearly miss his expertise, involvement and kindness.

On behalf of the board, management and employees of the IUCN National Committee of the Netherlands.

Johan van de Gronden, chairman of the board

Coenraad Krijger, director
